Lockheed Martin initiated new STEM program for the children of Hellenic Army General Staff

ATHENS, GREECE., May 30, 2023 – Lockheed Martin, the global aerospace and technology leader, has inaugurated a new STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program, for the children of Hellenic Army General Staff. This program forms part of Lockheed Martin’s global investment in STEM education and scholarships as part of its overall commitment to encourage the next generation scientists and engineers The program circulated two-Day Educational STEM Activities for the children of Hellenic Army families, aged 6-12. The STEM activities were planned and executed by the nonprofit organization "STEM Education". This STEM initiative joins the latest program initiated by Lockheed Martin in November 2022, focused in robotics, in the Special Child Care Centre of the Piraeus Naval Hospital for children

The 6-8 years old built remote controlled hovercrafts. During construction they had to do experiment with issues of friction, navigation on the ground, aerodynamic composition of forces and direction, with issues of electricity, and electromagnetic waves. They also learned how to reduce the force of friction, increase speed and how they can be in control (turn left right etc.).

Activities were held in which the children used their constructions with the aim of winning the competition but essentially to confirm the knowledge they have acquired. The 9-12 years old group built remote-controlled airships. Essentially airships (helium balloons) reminiscent of the old hydrogen tank airships and have science competitions on various STEM sectors.
